MEET THE BUSHES
BOSS BUSH
Natasha Kozaily is the fearless leader and visionary behind Baby Bushka. An accomplished musician, thespian, dancer, artist, ethnomusicologist and business owner, we often wonder: what time and place did this renaissance woman come from to give us life? The answer to that is as complicated as The Dreaming; we're just grateful that this Caymanian-Lebanese mermaid found her way to our shores.
When she's not bossing the Bush around, she's weaving pop melodies in her solo project NATULA, sailing the seven seas with CARRAT KAKE, and educating the future at Kalabash School of Music + the Arts. On her busy days off she enjoys making giant bowls of Tabouli, Tango dancing and reciting the entire Hound of Heaven poem by Francis Thompson.
BAD BUSH
The Bad Bush with the violin is Dr. Batya MacAdam-Somer, a child prodigy and Hebrew School drop out who hails from the balmy swamplands of Houston, Texas. When she's not dreaming of her ghost lover Houdini or playing dress up with her pet snake Seamus, you can find her traveling the world performing avant-garde classical music that composers write just for her.
She's a master interpreter with a gaze that burns straight into your soul. If you're not careful she'll map out your astrological chart, make you watch the entire filmography of David Lynch and break your heart.
HEAVY BUSH
The heavy beat behind the drums is Dr. Leah Bowden, our blue-eyed vixen from Northern California who doesn't want your bullshit. Despite being a music scholar and virtuoso percussionist with accolades too long to list, you’ll find her rocking multiple heartbeats on rock stages and avant-garde music halls across the world. But she’s just as comfortable getting down and dirty, from growing her own food to hiking and bathing in waterfalls.
With an anarchist spirit, humanitarian heart and utilitarian work ethic, she is the most beautiful sphinx, unlike anything you've ever dreamed of, and will NEVER let you down.
FANCY BUSH
Nancy Elizabeth Ross is the fanciest bush around with a list of talents longer than your grandma's string of pearls. When she's not on stage with Baby Bushka, she's singing the national anthem in football stadiums, acting on local theatre productions, teaching tiny humans how to move, groove, shake and peace make, writing scripts for children's theatre, swing dancing with senior citizens and getting lost in national forests around the world.
She has such a contagious enthusiasm for life that if you're not careful she'll have you running into the lake before you have a chance to take your shoes off. She is a ray of sunshine. She is an endless smile. She is the woman with the child in her eyes.
HELLA BUSH
With a voice like a Helen Frankenthaler painting and a mullett cooler than yours, Lexi Pulido has been dropping jaws on the floor since she first tested out her vocal chords at the moment of her birth on a cool evening in 1993. Since then she has been pondering the meaning of life harder than Nietzsche and devoting her life to the creation, performance and education of meaningful music making.
Meet her on a day off and you might find her chopping down bouquets of chard she grew herself and crying at the overwhelming beauty of nature. Women of all ages have been breaking their razors at the sight and sound of her original project KILIKILI, a phenomenon of art, poetry, feminism, absurd theatre, jazz and emotional abstraction worth journeying across the elements for.
SUGAR BUSH
The sweet and sultry Sugar Bush behind those milky guitar licks and honey vocals is the one and only Heather Nation. We came across this flower one day breaking hearts with her one-woman-magic show in a bakery downtown and it was love at first sight. Since joining our bouquet, this gorgeous alchemist has been slaying every David Gilmour solo whilst keeping our blood sugar up!
When she’s not turning roses into gold with her solo project, you can find her touring global stages with Lauren Mayberry or the Death Valley Girls, pole dancing to Prince tunes, making love for the peaches and watching Star Trek with her polydactyl kitties.
MIDNIGHT BUSH
Award winning songstress Marie Haddad is our angel behind the keys and midnight prayer in the darkest hours. While everyone is sleeping she’s sneaking into haunted seaside hotels to write songs in the moonlight and guide ships on their voyage home. Hailing from a long line of Serbian opera singers, Romani fortune tellers and Lebanese carpenters, Marie’s talents and interests extend far beyond our little earth.
Since the discovery of the largest cosmic void in 2007, Marie’s music has been traveling the outer reaches of the galaxy, underscoring Hallmark movies, Lifetime dance competitions and reality cooking shows. When she’s not entertaining ancient aliens in the Big Sky…she’s crafting paper theatre stages and sewing handmade costumes for all the neighborhood guinea pigs and stray cats.
LITTLE BUSH
The newest and littlest addition to the sisterhood of Baby Bushka is Melanie Medina. But watch out because this small wonder tames giants with her troubadour heart.
A nomad since childhood and songstress with a sweet tooth, you’ll never find this Little Bush suspended in anything except the Big Sky. Aside from writing ukulele songs about forests and Creme-brûlée for her original project Meljii, you might catch her shredding guitar at a jazz club in LA, or in the orchestra pit of a musical.
She’s the cloud changing into an Arch that has enough room for everyone and will always remind you to look up and blow a kiss.
DARK BUSH
The virtuoso hands behind the keys and the voice that has you weeping every time she sings This Woman's Work is Nina Leilani Deering. She is a cosmic being sent to earth from another dimension to suffer and sing. You will never understand her. A classically trained musical genius and gentlewoman academic, she can play anything from Prokofiev Concertos to obscure Turkish melodies without a single page in front of her.
The humblest among us all, she is the blushing bosom behind Orchid X Mantis, the co-founder of Voices of City Choir and the bleeding heart behind countless musical projects lucky enough to have her poetry. All the glitter in the world couldn't shine brighter than our darkest Bush.

ALUMNI BUSHES
MIGHTY BUSH
Dani Bell is the musical miracle behind the Bush. She is the wide-eyed wonder peeking at you behind her mop of curls. She is the leotard-clad long lost daughter of David Hasselhoff and the prolific songstress and multi-instrumentalist behind the masked project Dani Bell + the Tarantist and indie-pop outfit Boychick.
Ever since discovering the music of Kate Bush, she has dedicated herself to the study of Del Palmer's bass licks and Harry Houdini's greatest escapes. Her miniature hound of love Bill is the only one who knows where she keeps the key and she will forever remain a mystery to us all...a gorgeous mighty mystery.
BUFFALO BUSH
Buffalo Bush is Shelbi Bennett, the bewitching voice of our entire city. You won't be able to find a single person on planet earth with a bad word to say about her. She is as a Buffalo; a symbol of power, strength, loyalty, and the most down-to-earth lady who'll feed you soup, crochet you a scarf and laugh at all your jokes.
Apart from providing vocals, guitar, synth, glockenspiel and bass to Kate's eight, she is the haunting voice behind The Midnight Pine and the head-banging belt behind The Havnauts. We often fantasize of making a full length album of her giggle to wake us up every morning and put us to sleep every night. We think it would be a great hit.
